Choose one or two targets if useful. The task is successful when the learner explains the problem and agrees on a workable plan. Other clear, natural wording is welcome.
Grammar you can point to
- Polite requests: could + subject + verb
Could you send a red coat, please?
Ask for a replacement.- Past simple: ordered and received
We ordered a red coat, but we received a blue one.
Explain what went wrong.- Questions with can
When can you deliver it?
Check what is possible and when.
Possible review: adjective + noun groups (an old black suitcase), singular and plural nouns (one chair / two chairs), and time expressions (at four / by five / today).

For you
What to do
Ask the learner to open “Practise the language” on their page.
Model one request. Let the learner practise requests for two items. Use the short example call if they need a model.
One model: “We ordered two matching blue chairs, but we received one blue chair and one white chair. Could you send two matching blue chairs, please?”
Let the learner try the coat and suitcase. Use word help or the example call only if needed.
A quick politeness check · optional
Compare the instruction with the request. Could you ... please? is a useful choice for this call. Accept other polite wording. Let the learner try one request aloud.
Use the two lines on the learner page. Include this in the eight-minute language stage.
03 / Practise the language
Explain. Ask. Check.
Use the order and delivery below. Practise a request for the coat and one for the suitcase.
The learner can see and change their marks from Step 2 here. Those marks stay on their own browser tab.
You help a small film crew. Filming starts at 8 am tomorrow. The delivery is wrong. Call the hire shop and agree on replacements.
What you need
- The coat must be red.
- The suitcase must look old. Brown or black is OK.
- The two chairs must match. Any colour is OK.
- The table lamp is correct. Keep it.
Everything must arrive by 5 pm today.
