About this site

ESL Conversation Questions provides questions and resources for English teachers. YUL LLC, registered in Florida, United States, operates the site. For site or privacy questions, email contact@yulllc.com.

Information we use

You do not need an account. This site has no comments, newsletter, push notifications, or contact form.

If you email us, we receive your address, message, and any files you send. We use them to answer you and deal with your request. Larry reads these messages personally. We do not use AI to read customer email.

Cloudflare hosts and protects the site. It processes request information such as your IP address, requested page, request time, browser details, and security events. This helps deliver pages, find faults, and protect the service.

With your permission, Google Analytics measures page visits and clicks on PDF and book-store links. It also records standard visit and engagement information. Our measurement code omits search and filter words from these events. A recorded click does not tell us that you completed a download or purchase.

Mediavine manages advertising and provides privacy controls through consentmanager. Advertising providers can process device, visit, and advertising data. The Mediavine section below gives further details. Pages without ads can still load the privacy service.

Teacher tools, Search, and browser storage

Copy, Project, and Print work in your browser. These tools do not send copied questions or classroom answers to our server.

Search and filters also run in your browser. Your search or filter words can appear in the page address and browser history. If you open or reload that address, it reaches our hosting service. Our Analytics code omits those words.

Your browser saves your light or dark theme under ecq-theme. It stays until you clear the site's storage or your browser removes it.

If you permit Analytics, Google uses first-party cookies to distinguish visits and sessions. The consent service also stores your privacy choices. These are separate from the saved theme and from data retained by service providers.

Why we use information

Where data protection law requires a legal basis, we use:

  • Our legitimate interests in delivering and protecting the site, finding faults, and answering ordinary email requests.
  • Your consent for optional Analytics and for advertising purposes that require consent. The privacy controls describe the advertising providers' purposes and legal bases.
  • A legal obligation when we must keep or disclose a record.

We do not treat all advertising as necessary to operate the site.

Your privacy choices

Use Update Privacy Settings at the bottom of the page to review or change your choices. In the consent panel, select Settings to see purposes, providers, and individual choices. Where that panel offers Reject all, use it to refuse the consent requests listed there.

Analytics does not load until the privacy controls provide the required permission. You can withdraw consent later. Withdrawal does not change the lawfulness of use before withdrawal.

Ads can still appear after refusal. Refusal does not mean that every provider request stops. The panel gives further information about the purposes and available choices.

You can also block or remove cookies through your browser. Clearing site storage can remove both your saved theme and your privacy choices.

Services and purchases

Cloudflare supplies hosting and security. Google supplies Analytics. Mediavine and its partners supply advertising. consentmanager supplies the consent controls used through Mediavine. Namecheap PrivateEmail handles our contact mailbox. These services receive information for their stated functions.

Providers can process information outside your country, including outside the European Economic Area. Cloudflare and Namecheap publish data-processing terms that include standard contractual clauses for relevant international transfers. These are contract safeguards for personal data. You can read Cloudflare's terms and Namecheap's terms. Contact us for more information about the safeguards that apply to information we handle. The advertising section below links to Mediavine's partners and their privacy information.

Book purchases take place on Amazon or Gumroad, not through a checkout on this site. We sell our own books through these stores. We use normal store links, not Amazon affiliate links.

The stores keep purchase and customer records and can make information available to us as a seller. Amazon and Gumroad also send notices to our business email account. We do not currently export customer lists or use them to send product-announcement emails. The stores' privacy policies and purchase terms apply to activity on their services.

How long information stays

We keep email while we answer requests and deal with related follow-up. We review routine correspondence at least once a year and delete messages that we no longer need. We keep records for longer when a legal duty, contract, or unresolved dispute requires it. This also applies to store notices received by email.

Our Analytics settings retain event-level data for two months and user-level data for 14 months. New activity resets the user-data period. These controls do not set the lifetime of cookies and do not apply to Google's standard aggregate reports.

Browser storage and provider records have separate retention periods. The theme setting remains until it is removed as described above. You can remove cookies and saved choices through your browser.

Google lists a two-year default for its first-party Analytics cookies. Tag settings and browser limits can change their lifetime. See Google's cookie information. This default is not a promise that a cookie will remain for two years on your device.

Hosting and email providers keep service and security records according to their operational needs and legal duties. These can outlast an individual visit or message. The provider information linked above explains these criteria. Advertising providers have separate retention practices, described in the privacy information linked in the Mediavine section below.

Your rights

Depending on the law that applies, you can ask to access, correct, or delete your personal information. You may also have rights to restrict its use, object to its use, or receive it in a portable form.

Email the privacy contact above. We may need limited information to confirm your identity. Legal duties and exceptions can affect the action we can take.

You can complain to the data protection authority where you live, work, or believe a data protection rule was broken. In Spain, this is the AEPD.

Children and classroom use

These resources are for teachers to select and use in their classes. The site does not ask students to create accounts or submit answers. Contact us if you have a privacy concern about a child's use of the site.

Changes

We will update this notice when the site's data use changes and show the update date.
